DERMAL FILLERS
WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?
Dermal fillers are injectable anti-aging treatments that may be used to correct wrinkles, rehydrate the skin, reshape and contour the cheeks, redefine the lips, and improve scarred tissue. In the right hands, their use result in a very natural, youthful appearance.
There are a large number of different dermal fillers made by various companies. Each dermal filler has distinct rheological properties. These distinctions will be used by your Aesthetic Medical Doctor to determine the most appropriate dermal filler for your specific needs.
WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS MADE OF?
Dermal fillers are made of a variety of substances, however the most popular, versatile and safest are made of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance which is found in all living organisms. It acts as a sponge in the body and has the capacity to absorb large amounts of water. This property allows us to use hyaluronic acid-based fillers as a hydrating agent as well as a shaping tool. At The Aesthetic Doctors we exclusively use synthetic, non-animal sourced hyaluronic acid-based fillers, which are similar to the body's own hyaluronic acid.
USES OF DERMAL FILLERS
With the stressors of modern society, exposure to sunlight, cigarettes and other toxins our skin loses hydration and elasticity, resulting in poor quality skin and wrinkles. Added to this, the effect of gravity constantly results in sagging of various compartments. Also, with the passing of time, the face loses volume in various facial fat pads. Lastly, the facial skeleton itself undergoes resorption to various degrees. All of these factors combined result in the classical 'aged face' appearance.
Dermal fillers represent a very versatile weapon in our armament against each of these factors

WHAT CAN I DO TO PREPARE FOR THE TREATMENT?
You should avoid alcohol, aspirin, vitamin E, gingko biloba, omega-3 and other medicines that may cause your skin to bruise easily. Please inform your doctor if you are on any other chronic or over-the-counter medications.
