ACNE SCARRING

Acne may affect over 90% of adolescents and, for many, may even persist into adulthood. It almost invariably has a negative impact on the psychosocial wellbeing of those affected. Even after the active phase of acne has long gone the scarring left behind is immediately apparent. The scars from acne range from deep depressed scars tethered by hard fibrous tissue to hypertrophic scarring that stands out in lumps and bumps. There are a number of different treatment options available, but the optimal treatment for Acne Scarring depends entirely on the extent and type of scarring that is present. We recommend that you arrange a consultation where one of our Aesthetic Medical Doctors will be able to fully assess your specific needs based on your skin condition

MESONEEDLING FOR ACNE SCARRING

Mesoneedling is a very effective tool to rejuvenate the face and can even be used on the neck, décolleté or the body. Tiny needles are used to puncture the skin and elicit a healing response which results in healthier, rejuvenated skin. In acne, Mesoneedling can be used to specifically target the acne scarring. Here the needling punctures will help to directly break down fibrous scarring. Furthermore, the stimulation of a healing response will also help to remodel and restructure the skin.
At The Aesthetic Doctors we recommend the use of the DERMAPEN. This allows us to tailor the Mesoneedling procedure to target the scarred areas with deeper punctures, while at the same time providing more superficial revitalising treatments to the rest of the face.
A course of sessions is advised as the treatment largely relies on the body's own natural ability to heal itself. The improvements in scarring and skin quality is often gradual, but very effective. Significant results are most often seen in treatment courses consisting of 4-6 sessions.

DERMAL FILLERS FOR ACNE SCARRING

Dermal Fillers are an excellent way to treat depressed, atrophic acne scarring. It is particularly effective for rolling scars and some boxcar scars. During the Dermal Filler procedure adherent fibrous tissue tethering can also be broken down to help lift and even the skin surface. The volumizing ability of fillers helps correct the depressions with an immediate effect, and the hyaluronic acid within the filler also stretches the fibroblasts, stimulating them to produce new collagen. This collagen stimulation will continue to improve the overlying skin even after the filler has been naturally removed by the body. Thus an immediate softening of scarring can be achieved followed by an eventual blending of the scars into normal surrounding skin. Dermal Fillers provide a very effective and safe tool for all depressed acne scarring.
